It is important that we mention about the Late B.R Chandrashekar Iyer who is Mr. Viswanatha Iyer’s Father. He lived as a Jodidhar (owner of villages) and later became a Class I Railway Contractor after the Introduction of Land Ceiling Act. This is where our journey with TATA steel began.
Mr. Chandrashekar continues to give us an account of other details:
“My father was introduced to TATA Steel by the Railways, as my grandfather was a Class I contractor with them, TATA Steel wanted to establish a yard at Bangalore and I do recollect him sharing with me about facing some issues with the local laborers. My father had taken it up as a challenge and was confident that he could accomplish it as, my father already had an experience of being consignment agents of Hindustan Steel for Boruka Steel.
Smt. GayathriChandrashekhar is easily one of the best Bharatanatyam dancers we have in our age, and has had a history of enchanting her audience by her sheer passion towards dance. Her accomplishments in the field of Bharatanatyam are plenty. She established herself as a loyal patron of the dance form by founding her own dance Academy “Nrutya School of Art” in Bengaluru, in the year 2009. Today, she imparts to her students what she believes to be a sacred artform.
Although she has attained a larger than life stature among those who look up to her, she is someone who has had humble beginnings. She was just a child back then, a child who sought dance, and not wings, so she could fly!
Hailing from a Tamil brahmin family in Mylapore, where much attention was paid to gods and star signs, she was a child, and still is at heart, who could just not sit at one place. She was a dreamer who danced with her feet, and was on her way to become a dancer who dreamt with her feet.
Her classical dance journey commenced at the age of 6 at a VazhuvoorPaani School of Bharatanatyam. She went on to do her Arangetram at the age of 12, under the guidance of Guru Kalaimamani Smt. K.J. Sarasa, one of the most sought after classical dance maestros in the field of Bharatanatyam in Chennai.
In May 1995, she made her international debut as a member of Archeologist Dr. Nagaswamy’s internationally acclaimed dance troupe with an overall 35 performances staged across the world. Her performances in Germany, Canada, Sweden, USA, UK, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Oman & Japan have earned her incredible fame. Call her a literal globetrotter, maybe?
The most recent foray of hers on the international scene was her performance at the recently held London International Dance Festival.
With a Master’s Degree in Commerce from the University of Chennai, she moved to Bangalore, where she is currently heading as Director of Shekar Logistics Private Limited in Bangalore.
She has been an ‘A’ grade talent artist of the Chennai Doordarshan. She has been bestowed with the honor of performing Bharatanatyam Recital for a dinner hosted by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, late Selvi. J. Jayalalitha at the first Assembly session and for the second time with an audience packed with delegates from across the world in a meeting with the Chief minister.
However, what's more interesting is that she gave the first-ever dance performance in the British Museum of London, and was the torchbearer for all the dance performances that followed.
Like the strong independent woman that she is, She has been performing solo recitals since she was 12 and is still performing extensively in reputed sabhas all over the country. Notable amongst her performance repertoire are:
